Gay Girl Good God Book Review

This book review of Gay Girl Good God: The Story of Who I Was, and Who God Has Always Been, by Jackie Hill Perry is written by Drey Clark. Drey serves as a student pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston Texas and is currently working on his ThM at Dallas Theological Seminary.  He also hosts the podcast “Good theological Thursday” with the goal to bring community and theology to the next generation.

In her book, Gay Girl Good God Jackie Hill Perry presents her personal story of becoming a Christian in light of her same sex attraction. As the subtitle notes, Jackie carefully walks through the story of who she is and who God has always been. Feeling Sad and Lonely this Christmas Season?

Feeling Sad and Lonely this Christmas Season?

Feeling sad and lonely during the Christmas season is real. December is a month that can bring immense joy or immense pain. For those struggling with these feelings of pain, this letter from my friend Sam Eaton is for you. During this Christmas season, know that you are loved by your Father in Heaven. For those experiencing joy this Christmas, this letter is for you. During this Christmas season, take moments out of your day to love on those hurting. I love Sam’s suggestion to sit down with a hurting person over a hot cup of coffee and listen to their story.

During the Christmas season, when people are struggling, let’s point them to the one who can heal their souls. The one who came to this earth as a tiny helpless baby so that we could know God personally. Only Jesus can take away pain. Introducing others to Jesus is the best gift we can give people this Christmas.

Enjoy this guest post from Sam!

Love,

GIVEAWAY: Wrestling with Faith, Love, & Gators

GIVEAWAY

Hey friends! Exciting news – a good friend of mine, Chad Young, just launched his new book Wrestling with Faith, Love and Gators! I’m excited for this new book for two reasons. First of all, Chad and I know each other through Cru, a college ministry, and share a passion for college students to fully know God’s love. I know that this book will help college students experience God’s love in powerful ways. Secondly, Chad asked me to share a story in the book! In chapter 3, I share a story of how I desired the love of man more than the love of God. I had placed the desire to have a man’s love over the desire for God’s love, and this left me unsatisfied.

Chad and I are very excited to share this book with you today. Check out his guest post below on God’s love, make sure to enter the giveaway, and then leave Chad a comment encouraging him with the new book launch.

Remember, you are loved.

xoxo Joy

Love, Joy

I was a painfully stupid 19 year-old.

I was insecure and made a lot of stupid jokes. It was a cold Iowa winter’s night, the type of night where normal people hibernate indoors. Not us. We were young and invincible as we made our way back from the sketchiest of bars. All you could see in the 2am sky was the cloud of smoke rising from the warm breath of our huddled, slightly intoxicated pack.

The group went their separate ways as I hung in the hallway with a girl I was proud to call my friend. As we stood chatting, somehow as a drunk guy and girl passed us in the hallway, an inexcusable joke escaped from my lips; a joke about rape. (more…)

Turning to God During Heartbreak – A Man’s Perspective

TURNING TO GOD IN HEARTBREAKHeartbreak. We have all been there. Those nights when the loss is so unbearable that you fall to your knees, crying out to God, “Please, take away this pain in my heart. Why did this happen?” I know the feeling well and so does my friend Sam. As a monthly contributor to JP Ministries, Sam writes vulnerable stories from the heart and this post is no different. If you are experiencing heartbreak and loss this Christmas season, know that you’re not alone. And most importantly, know that there is a God who loves you so much that he sacrificed his son for you. Press on through the pain and you will one day experience joy. (more…)

Why Should You Stop Looking for Your Future Spouse?

Why Should You Stop Looking for Your Future Spouse?Have you ever walked into a Christian event and scanned the room for your future spouse? With marriage on the brain, countless times I went to an event hoping to meet my husband. How distracting. I came to these events to meet God and spend time worshiping him. But what did I care most about? Looking for my future spouse.

Friends, marriage is not the answer. Marriage will not fix our problems or fill the hole in our hearts. Only Jesus has the power to heal us and fill our hearts. (more…)
