Hello Friend,

My name is Joy Skarka. In high school I began a search for fulfillment. I was a happy person, and I had great friends and parents who loved me, but I just felt like there had to be something more. I turned to guys and friends seeking love and approval, but nothing was enough. I entered college still looking for fulfillment. I searched, but I never found it. I again turned to guys, but this time was sexually abused. My heart broke. I was depressed and filled with shame, but Jesus saw the situation differently. Jesus kept pursing me. It was in college that God saved me by his grace.

The love I discovered in Jesus gave me a passion for ministry. In September 2013, I launched this blog with the goal to lead women to Jesus. After graduating in 2014 with a BA in relational communications, I moved to Dallas, Texas to earn a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS). At DTS, I met my husband Zack and we got married in 2017. 

Also in 2017, I graduated from DTS with a MA in Christian Education and jumped right into my doctorate. In 2019, we moved to Bradenton, Florida–where we now live with our two children. In 2021, I graduated with my Doctorate degree in Educational Ministry from DTS, focusing on helping women find freedom from sexual shame.

I am passionate about creating spaces to free women from sexual shame. Since March 2020, I serve as the Authentic Intimacy Program Manager, where I lead online small groups for women with unwanted sexual behavior. I coach and teach Christian leaders how to help women find freedom from sexual shame and pornography. I have written numerous online articles, appeared on many podcasts, led workshops, and currently leads online recovery groups. I dream about a world where every woman has experienced the life change of Jesus. I desire that they feel His power, trust Him with their lives, and experience healing. I invite you to join me on this journey, check out my resources, and invite other women to join us.
