Can God heal our hurting hearts?

JoyPedrow.com

I’ve seen God work miracles in my life and have experienced a healing that could only have come from God, yet there are still some issues that I struggle believing that he will heal.

My freshman year of college I was in a very dark place. Rape can destroy a girl. It takes her heart and makes it feel used, broken, worthless, and disgusting. During the heartache, I believed God could never heal me.

How could God make me feel valuable, loved, protected and beautiful?

I doubted God and his plan every single day, yet I kept pursuing him. I believe this hope to not give up came from God. In a year and a half, God had healed me more than I ever imagined. No one else gets the credit but him. My life radically changed because of God. I began to believe that he valued me, loved me, protected me, and called me his beautiful daughter!

Maybe you too have seen God do incredible healing in your life, but some days that is not enough. We forget all that God has done for us in the past and we focus on our present circumstances. Our circumstances will always change, but our God will remain the same.

God heals.

Here are 3 points scripture has taught me about healing:

1) Jesus was famous for healing. If healing is Jesus’s claim to fame, then shouldn’t we believe that he can heal us?

And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.  So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them.“ -Matthew 4:23-24.

2) Healing comes from our faith. Jesus heals a man physically and spiritually because of the man’s friends’ faith.

“And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city.  And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” -Matthew 9:1-2.

3) We have to place our burdens at the feet of Jesus to experience healing.

Jesus went on from there and walked beside the Sea of Galilee. And he went up on the mountain and sat down there.  And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them,  so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.” –Matthew 15:29-31.

Friends, I know how hard it is to believe that you can experience healing, but Jesus wants us to place our doubts and fears at his feet.

Place your burdens at the feet of Jesus and experience the healing that he freely gives. Cry out to God. “Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.” -Jeremiah 17:14

It is hard sometimes to tell our stories. I recently shared my story of date rape when I was younger as a guest on another blog. It not only brought more healing to myself, but God used it to begin the healing journey of others. Blessings!
