Lift Him Up don’t Pull Him Down

You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. Exodus 20:7

How many times have you heard someone say “Oh my G**” or read “OMG” in a text message? This phrase is common in our daily conversations, yet we have no idea how this simple three letter acronym is taking glory away from our God. We must take action steps to stop misusing God’s name and instead bring him glory.

In one of my favorite author’s new book, “Lift Him Up don’t Pull Him Down”, you will learn the significance of God’s name, why we should never take his name in vain, and how to practically stop our hurtful language.

Have you ever misused God’s name; carelessly tossed His name into a conversation as an expletive? “Oh my G**”! We have to get together for lunch.” Or used our God as a common exclamation in happy surprise or angry disgust?  “J****”! How did he fumble that ball again?” These statements contain sinful verbal trash; trash that can have a lasting, negative effect on our souls.

My new book, Lift Him Up don’t Pull Him Down explains why God desires us to respect His holy name.

Some may think misusing God’s name is a small infraction, just words, not hurting anyone. Don’t let others sway you from reflecting what you understand and believe to be right. Our eternity is not decided by “others.” It is decided by God. And God clearly tells us not to take His name in vain. He gave us free will, but lovingly desires our obedience to Him. With a straightforward message, He told us disobedience to His third commandment will not go unpunished.

Yet we trash the names God, Jesus and Christ each time we use them in any unloving or unholy manner. This improper way of speech includes expressing pleasure when using them in common ways. We are turning The Name into something so dirty, smelly or smashed, they are unrecognizable as the true deity they reveal.

Society is constantly changing. And these changes include shifting many values that for some reason, are no longer deemed necessary. But it is necessary to stand firm and treat God as God. Believers, it is our responsibility to sift through what gradually becomes popular, and make sure these changes do not take away from God’s law. If we remove God’s law, we are in essence worshiping our man made laws over His. The act of fraudulently trying to make ourselves more powerful than our Creator, only creates more trash.

If Christians don’t stand up for God, then who will? Who will stand up for God’s commands? Who will stand up for God to preserve the holiness of His name and break the chain of passing on “OMGs” to BFFs as they LOL? Simply clicking the delete button on specific texts will shine light on your soul.

To stay rooted in God, we need to stop the lazy habit of trying to weaken the power of God’s name. This weakening includes the overloaded phrase, “Oh my G**”!

Learn how to make this important change in your life, and stop taking the Lord’s name in vain.
